Four contenders for the title? 1 Cheerio from Mondo Bongo 2 Say Hi To Mick (b side) 3 Episode 3 from Surfacing ( spooky hysterical laughter -"that's not funny I'm not laughing"4 Shes not the best ( In the Long Grass)I'va always liked Cheerio, but its hard to say whether its better than Say Hi...

As a big music fan it always strikes me that there are just some people I've never gotten 'round to listen for various reasons. It doesn't mean I don't know any of their material but more ofte than not circumstances have prevented me from ever giving them proper consideration. My list of famous omis...
Is it just me, or do others also suddenly take note of artists or bands who have been around for years? I only recently started to realised Pulp were actually a good band. I didn't listen to them before, but might actually buy a CD. This isn't the first time this has happened, I suddenly realised I liked...
Everybody must have some songs which are far from their normal or habitual listening but which in spite of themselves the cannot help themselves from liking- even at the expense of public ridicule or uncoolness. Should have a lot more but I'll admit I always like that old song by Middle Of The Road Chi...
Not sure if people have seen the Rats perform Rat Trap aided by Hot Gossip from the Kenny Everett Show. Must admit this is new to me. Think they did a proper video for KE but the footage of them doing Rat Trap with the hot gossip girls is totally different to the official KE video. Not sure if it is widely know...
Just a quick survey of people's favourite lyricists. Of course this is always tied up to bands/artists you actually listen to so will be somewhat personal and limited. Anyway in no particular order these are some of the lyricists I rate as well above average... Peter Perrett from The Only Ones Momus a...
Hi- Does anyone know if demo versions of any of the album tracks have ever come to light. Normally a band records demos of the songs as a sketch or outline version before the albums proper are recorded. The final album version can then sound either very different, for better or for worse. Hopefully bett...
Always wondered as the main songwriter with the Boomtown Rats if Bob Geldof composed the songs on guitar. He must have had some knowledge of chord progressions etc to come up with tunes and be credited as the songwriter. Cant see him sitting 'round a piano composing Lookin' After No 1. Can anyone shed a...
Hi there , I am new around here and I have a question. In '84 I bought a Ibanez guitar ( Roadster Series RS 500 NT ). It was a second hand. In 2000 started a search to it's origin and came to the Ibanez Vintage site where a guy searched at the Ibanez Headquarters for it's whereabouts. I knew it was a very rare gui...
Not sure if this has been mentioned on forum in the past (couldn't find anything with a cursory search) but for anyone who didn't already know there's a track entitled "A Pop Fan's Dream" by a band called "I Ludicrous" which tells the tale of a guy winning Sunday lunch with Bob and...
Very good quality footage of the Rats playing at Luton can be found on Youtube. Just google Boomtown Rats Luton and Bobs yer uncle [ or shoud that be Pete?] The band seem in very fine form with an attractive stage set.
... I find it sad that nowadays there are few physical singles these days. I think the last one I bought was Further Complications by Jarvis C0cker which was about two years ago.
I never liked it when they remixed the song for the b side or just used an album track, but some B-sides are bonafide classics...
Ok, there's no Laughing Gnome to vote for, but if Garrick, Simon, Pete and Darren want to please us and a hundred boozy sandal wearers this summer, what should they rehearse? -- Edited by ArrGee on Tuesday 24th of May 2011 09:59:46 AM
Good video of Beat of the Night. Some years ago, do not know where. But it is back to front. As you can see, Bob appears to be right handed and the writing is back to front too. Good quality though. Can't say it is one of my favourite songs. http://youtube.com/watch?v=LqP6z9dyqEI
Then look at this site. Every ticket tells a story Ever see the Boomtown Rats live? -and did you save your ticket stub? If it's yes and yes - maybe you can write our next Stubstory. NOTE - This is no longer listed on the RAM site. Nine Below Zero now appear to be playing on Saturday night http://www.hertsale.org.uk/beerfest/ This is like the gig from heaven. It's the Rats, it's cheap, and there's fcuking loads of beer! Get in there! (mmm getting a sense of Deja Vu here...
Will probably regret this but.... Did anyone else make or utilise stuff to show devotion to the Rats? I can confess to getting a t-shirt printed up with 'I Don't Like' across the chest and 'Mondays' going down (with shared 'o', like on the 7" sleeve, NOT because I was too tight to buy another letter...
http://www.hertsandessexobserver.co.uk/Leisure-Lifestyle/Stortford-Music-Festival/The-Rats-return-for-Stortford-Music-Festival-27042011.htm... but what are the chances of Johnny and Live Aid co-founder Bob joining them in the spotlight?Ive got mixed feelings about that, s...
First thanks to Scottie for pointing me in this direction because this is news to me, but it seems Geldof is to star in a new French movie called Mauvaise Fille [Bad Girl] Bob is to play a rock star seperated from his wife. The character is based on French philosopher Bernard Henri Levy. Levy's daughter J...
Our old friend Eddy has a super video channel with clips from the 2002 tour and others. some songs you dont often see. http://www.youtube.com/user/Eddyvalda

I can't make it sadly.

Just noticed that How To Sell has only ten tracks. I may be mistaken but theoriginal line up possibly had twelve songs for the October release or maybe it was myimagination. If so we'll be getting a trimmed down version. Geldof once claimed that if you can't say it all in ten songs then you shouldn't pad i...
A 6 track promo copy of Bobs new album has just been sold for £90 on ebay.I was outbided in the last few seconds by a buyer from Italy.I wonder if Eddy(of The Happy Fan Club) really did throw in the towel like he said he would?.Good luck to the winner, beat me fair and square.
Was curious to know a bit more about the Leslie Sheppard person who wrote How To Compose so did a bit of admittedly amateur Internet type research. Seems the same person also wrote a book called Tinnitus- all you want to know about this distressing condition. As well LS {not sure whether male or femal...
Interestingly Bob was asked by Simon Mayo on BBC 5 live is he would ever consider organising another concert like live Aid or Live 8 and Geldof said it was pretty unlikely. Now we hear that Bob is to host a concert in Sydney on May 1 called Rock and Rebuilt featuring artists from Australia, New Zealand and...
I know some other people were interested in this and I have eventually found a site advertising it: www.rushfest2011.co.ukHowever, despite emailing football club who said Rats were confirmed, it doesn't actually list them as playing ...and the X Factor/BGT doesn't exactly appeal! So think I ma...
Was just listening to BBC Radio 5 Live and heard that Bob Geldof is appearing on the Richard Bacon show sometime today between 2 and 4 pm. 5 live is one of my favourite stations and I tend to listen to it a lot. Richard Bacon is not my favourite presenter, having taken over from the brilliant Simon Mayo ov...
Did anyone else listen to the radio interview yesterday? It was very good, quite a long interview and they played 3 Rats tracks - though at the end after playing Mondays they went on to play Save all your kisses for me by the Brotherhood of Man which was a bit bizarre!
Short three minuite feature on Youtube featuring David Mallet and Bob The Gob talking about the video for I Don't Like Mondays. Mallet was the director who had previously directed Bowie's Ashes To Ashes video as well as loads of other Bowie videos from the late seventies. Mallet says a big infliunce o...
Some kicking quotes! However I think Rock 'n' Roll has been over for quite a while now. Pulp announced it at the end of the last century. I'd love to have seen the ranting and raving, and he may have some valid points, but I think if he really cared he'd be touring and making some protest music. http://...
so, just been listening to pink floyd, i think i have to hand it to bloke singers that when they sing well, they sing so ****ing beautifully it brings tears to ones eyes. I have to say that lead singer of boomtown rats also has one of those soulful voices that really kind a hit ya! Voices that speak soul. I...
happening on FB at 6.15 pm UK time (1.15 pm Texas time). Go to our FB page it's happening there. More details soon. Fans can ask questions via the stream. 'See' you there. It is a Friday evening for us UK people -- Edited by ArrGee1991 on Tuesday 15th of March 2011 06:15:08 PM
Some think it is, but it ain't. It is independent. If you think the stupid mugs they are trying to flog on the Geldof website are ****e, you are free to say that here. Or anything else for that matter. Read the rules, reasonably adhere to them and write freely. Getting REALLY fed up that this forum is...
Are we all mad??? hehe just kidding...... Seriously WHY do think Bob is cool? Is it his looks? his charm? his dress sense? his eyes? his smile? his intelligence? his voice? his music? his compassion? his attitude? his personality? his political activism? his ideals? his ideas? his impetus in ending...
The Fine ArtBob Geldofs new album, How to Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell, has all the things you would want and expect from Geldof: humor, the virtuoso musicianship of his now-longtime band, and musical and lyrical references to pop that has gone before (the Rats were quoting all over the place...
Apparently a union has been formed for BTR fans. We are going on strike. Union boss, JoanOfArc, says 'due to cancellation of York gig we are calling a strike, in other words BTR fans are going to refrain from acknowledging existence of BTRs UNLESS our demands are met' Demands 1. BTRs have to come to BTR...
Bob said in recent interview that current music about generally lacks PASSION, I couldn't agree MORE!!! In fact passion is what is lacking in this society FULL STOP/PERIOD. Wtf is happening to this currently apathetic dire state of a country??? OK so we oldies are gonna have to show the kids how to hav...
(and in a more readable font) Yesterday was the day I came out to declare my victory. For years now I have felt like I was in some sort of secret club, a very select club, which is all rather nice but being cliquey was never a good quality now was it. Bob was in Berlin to showcase the new album. The intimate clu...
Bob is on Breakfast TV from Toronto on Wednesday 9 and on the Marilyn Denis Show the same day http://www.bttoronto.ca/ http://www.marilyn.ca/ The band are on the Letterman Show on the 15th (I think) then 2 shows in Austin Texas, one at SXSW on 17 and a FREE one at Jovita's on the 18th . Bob and the band...
I have never got my grubby hands on one, but what I want to know is are they playable? I did spray a few discs I had with an aerosol but that fcuked them up! Of course they have to play the LP in question. Many years ago I bought a David Bowie tape which had John Denver's Greatest Hits on! If they are playable...
Sometimes I think I am reading articles written about me! The full version is in today's paper, but my wife has assured me I'm not that different in real life wired for delusionJohn Harlow ...fears many of us are developing e-personalities, alternative personae that exist...The psychiatrist des...
Not exactly a quiz, but you used to get little messages scratched in the run off. Name the tunes! 1. Looking After No 2. 2. No Grime Here Paddy 3. Keep You're (sic) Trap Shut - Do The Rat! (only on 12" version) 4. Merry Christmas (CLUE: Garrick Roberts was NOT on the sleeve, but the other Rats at the tim...
With nothing better to do on a Sunday{ except maybe watch Birmingham beat Arsenal ] I though I'd try to compile a list of famous characters in Boomtown Rats songs so in no particular order here goes..... Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun Charles Manson "Helter skelters free/ dont tell Mad Charlie that...
At risk of upsetting Noel, vastly outweighed by fear of upsetting Lisa, one more quiz which hopefully will keep you going for a while. Theme is Rats B sides (very loosely in places!). Take the very first letter from each answer and rearrange all 12 to reveal the overall Rats related answer. As ever, goo...
So who's going then? I am! Yay! Anyone know York very well, we have most of the day to do some siteseeing on the Sunday, any suggestions of where to check out?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/frontrow Sadly the two of them didn't get together to discuss recent events in the Middle East. Might have been a bit tasty if they had! -- Edited by ArrGee on Tuesday 1st of March 2011 11:32:20 PM
Just wondering are there fans of the Boomtown Rats that have no interest in Bob Geldof's solo career and just couldn't be bothered to buy or get to hear his new material. I preferred Geldof's work with the Rats but have always remained interested in him as a singer and personality. I presume most fan...
if any one can help I am looking for the review I wrote of the Seattle show in 2002- I had a different pc back then and I cant find it Dale fodleg@yahoo.com
This is weird. In Eddy's article "An incredible history sometimes funny!" he recounts being asked by Tina & Ian about a cucumber! And not just an ordinary cucumber, but an inflatable one .?????? Does anyone know what they're on about or is it obvious and there's something I'm missi...
Years ago, back in the days of vinyl, I had a copy of Rat Tracks, an 12 inch EP imported from Canada. The choice of tracks always seemed odd to me until I acquired the Columbia 1992 CD release of Mondo Bongo. Anyhow... The stand out track for me was the live version of Nothing Happened Today. I always wonder...
Don't get carried away with this, and I have not even spoken to Bob or Willo about it yet. If we could organise a Bob Geldof.info fan convention and everyone had enough lead time, would we get the appropriate numbers? What I have in mind is suggesting we put on a nice intimate gig in the UK's m...
Ian is proposing a get together or "mingle" of Rats/Geldof fans , probably in London. The bobgeldof.com Mingle - Ian Gibbons from bobgeldof.com is kicking an idea about. Now we have active Facebook and Twitter profiles, there could be an opportunity to have regular events when likemin...
Does anyone think Play To Win by Gung Ho [Fingers/ Crowe] would make a good choice of a cover version by any up and coming band? Its a really good tune with great lyrics, and is in the spirit of The Boomtown Rats while being poppy and accessible at the same time. It always struck me as one that got away as the...
To follow on from suss`s names quiz ,i thought i`d have a go at a numbers quiz, just for fun. All these numbers appear in the lyrics to rats songs. They can be found on the re-issued cd`s. They must be a number ,rather than the word(5 not five) and be in lyrics not the title (whitehall 1212 does not count) HAV...
Now this is much better. Simple video. Do you like my new avatar? met Bob and Pete at the Youbloom awards last night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKckvz6eNFc -- Edited by Scottie on Friday 11th of February 2011 10:08:23 PM

Just trying to compile a best and worst of new album. Please post your top three favourite songs and two songs which are frankly not up to it. No need to expand or explain but you may if you wish. We'll see if any consensus emerges or do we have widely divergent views.
Ok, it sounds like a Beatles tribute, but if there is any song that a broad cross section of people would like, this is it. Personally I think Blow Fish and Six Pack are far more interesting (and a shame Geldof doesn't do a few more like them), but if any song would be played on Radio 2, Here's To You is the o...
Well not quite but... Bit of fun for these long winter nights - All the following appear in Boomtown Rats recordings. Simply find the song to which they belong. Have marked those that feature more than once (i.e. in different songs) and also some of the names all appear in the same song. No prizes on offe...
I'm a lifelong Boomtown Rats/Bob fan from Winnipeg, Canada and I can't wait to hear the new CD... but it's not out in Canada yet. I have heard the single and the snippets on the Amazon.co.uk site. Does anyone know of any online sites where you can purchase the new disc as a download outside of the UK? I ord...
