Always first with the news Seems Bob has been recording a new video for 'his next tour' according to 9 News Perth. Very short clip of spaghetti western type scene, four guys on horseback. Hard to identify any of the guys in the shot, was thinking it maybe it could even be a new Rats video or does Geldof go...
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bbvduZDE5a0 Ive not seen this before, probably because this TOTP edition was fronted by Dave Lee Travis who appears briefly at the end. Gerry on drums, Garry on keyboards and Fingers on guitar! But Bob as ever on lead vocals.

Here's the full gig from Wexford last Halloween weekend. I've met Andy the guy who filmed it, a few times. Excellent camera work which gives a real feel for what the Rats are like, live, in a fairly intimate setting. Bit of an old Moran's Hotel vibe going on here, full on performance so can't really ask f...
Maybe a little late, but a few shows on BBC Four tonight featuring Irish bands including The Boomtown Rats. Just watching a pre #1 performance of Rat Trap from TOTP. In many ways better than the Travolta photo ripping one.
Some poor camera work possibly caused by badly arranged and therefore annoying lighting, but interesting nevertheless and courtesy of YouTube which is regularly now hosting little-seen vintage bits and bobs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmaB4fuK8OM a brief offering of Mondays prece...
Excellent performance of full length Elephant's Graveyard. Had not seen this on YouTube before so here goes.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYs4Bf3gK1c
I posted a like on a Vipers post on Facebook and one thing led to another and this is a early rendition of Neon Heart which has a very Stonesy feel to it. Thanks to The Vipers!
Sorry to start this again - I know it has been discussed from time to time here. Did anyone ever manage to track down a copy of the early demo tape? I recently got to listen to a copy of a 1980 BBC Transcription disc with a profile of the Rats and it includes a couple of snippets from a demo - including a versi...

They must know it isn't my birthday next week and are scheduling this. I won't be up in the wee small hours like another in this parish, but TiVo can record it. Probably worth a coffee of two for Mr. Geldof. Mr Briquette, Crowe and Fingers can get one to share as well along with Mick & Keef. https://ww...
Rat Trap - is no 472 down 2 places from last year when it was 470
Mondays - 231 - down from 175 last year.
I forgot to vote and spread the word. Maybe we could have pushed them slightly higher. Still it's good to know all those people who voted are still thinking of the Rats. Just beneath them are The Rol...
As Theresa May arrived for her meetings with EU leaders in Brussels last week, Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, took to Twitter to declare tell me why I like Mondays!

I never really liked the covers of most of the Rats LPs . A Tonic for the Troops is an exception so how about some alternate covers? First up Surfacing (the album should be renamed Xs and Os ). Just need care to avoid OXO... Ideally the Xs and Os would be embossed
Not quite Bohemian Rhapsody... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6795278/ Narrated through her diary, the story is a fictional account of Laura, a petite self-destructive and remote teenager living a drug fuelled dead-end, latch-key existence in a Southern Californian suburb.Mondays is a f...

Bob Geldof and The Boomtown Rats play live to a sell-out crowd at London's Dominion Theatre in 1985, in support of their last album together, In The Long Grass. They performed their number one hits Rat Trap and I Don't Like Mondays as well as many other hits.
I can't think of another year since err 1985 where I have heard "Do They Know It's Christmas?" so much. Every morning at breakfast in a Dublin hotel. Every shop I went into in Dublin. Even carol singers on Grafton Street (this is the very loose definition of Carol singers), and now the Gav...
I wonder how many stars have false teeth or implants etc? Imagine if they couldn't fix their teeth apart from fillings so they'd have gaps in their teeth if they lost any imagine they couldn't afford the dental work lets say they could have dentures though hahahahahahahahaha
Jarv Is - Earth - New songs, Halloween, and an obscure Pulp song and Bela Lugosi's Dead as an encore. Fab!Rolling Stones/Liam Gallagher - London Stadium - Sneaked into the golden circle to see them for what could be The Last Time, I don't know. unloved - Hoxton Music Hall - Atmospheric night out w...
I didn't do this last year. In chronological order. They were all as good as each other, so I can't rank them! Julian Cope - Roundhouse - In the round and an all round great show spanning his whole careerHawley/Weller - Union Chapel - Acoustic sets which were quite stunning. Only shame was Hawley's...
CD1 vs. CD2
Basically pick your favourite song from each match up, and all the winners go through to the next round. So it doesn't drag on, voting ends midnight (UK) Friday 8th April, and then the second round draw will take place....
Will need to decide how to deal with a last 5, but in the mean...

(£55 upwards) Kicking off in the U.S. on September 8, 2018, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will consist of more than 300 shows acro...
Will be in Wexford tomorrow night to see the best band in the world. ever.period. Anyway will post a review and observations etc Hope there are some new songs as the old setlist can get a bit predictable and we seem to be waiting forever for some new product. Incidentally it was around this time 40 years a...

Excuse the lack of proper research but I was leafing through the autobiography of record producer Tony Visconti in a bookshop recently. He of course produced Mondo Bongo in Ibiza in 1981. He said the age of the great guitar player was obviously over, referring to the perceived lack of talent in Gerry C...

BBC4 will be carrying on with the nostalgia here, meaning Geldof returns to the TOTP studio with This is the World calling in the autumn of 86. So probably just before Christmas 2018 in the reruns. I began to lose some interest in the pop scene in 86 which has declined to almost nil now after 32 years. 1998...
cant believe 35years agon(datewise18/6/83) on Monday I went to see the rats in brum at Aston uni brill gig brill night although out of contract they were in fab form can't believe their back now happy days
The Rats are due to play at a big gig in Marley Park, Rathfarmham in South Dublin on July 8th. The are supporting headliners Queen and Adam Lambert. Tickets are a bit pricey at 80 euros which is about £70. The Darkness are also on the bill which most likely will see the Rats doing a shorter set. Anyway it's...

I've been looking for the audio of this for a while, having long since lost the cassette I recorded when it was broadcast on Radio 1 in December 1978. Well, it has been nearly forty years. Does anyone know of a source to download or stream this gig? I see that it used to be on YouTube but no longer.

Brilliant video. There must be a story behind this one. Where was it filmed? Bob looks good in a hard hat. http://youtube.com/watch?v=7BZ-UDz_L-0 -- Edited by Scottie at 23:43, 2007-11-01
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9LkJ_z0k-C8 Informative You Tube video from Mr Sundstrom although only the U.K. singles are mentioned. Such a great, overlooked album, it is astonishing how epically it failed, especially given Geldofs profile at the time.
curb your enthusiasm - Eight series in and still making me cry with laughter. Larry David wasted too much time on Seinfeld, he should have started curb a few years sooner. It's all pretty good on TV for comedies right now with Fresh Meat (the university years of an Inbetweener from the makers of Peep...
cant believe to been 40years since this was released and we look like we might be getting some ew rats songs how awesome is that hope they release soon (tiding myself over by playing rats back catalogue in order)&many live ones in between
Playing devil advocate and perhaps stirring up some debate, after the increasing number of school shooting is America, is IDLM in bad taste and should it be retired? I know it's a song that most casual fans want to hear, but for me it simply tells a story of a school shooting. Poor taste? Maybe if it was ve...
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FYU3ksamfDA Interesting recording. The last comment by Bob is unfathomable however. How can he say he wrote it about something completely different, she was just the fool in the middle?
Apparently a source close to me has informed me bob is so fcuked off with the press that he won't sing again. Daggerrat tells me that bob will try and reprise his help for 3rd world health issues.Greedy cnut must be skint.lol Shame as I played v deep for the first time in 3 yrs weds.

Just had the Story of 1982 and Big Hits of 1982 on BBC4 so the station continues with the now familiar format of rerunning the weekly TOTP episodes from yesteryear towards and over each weekend starting on Referendum Day at 7.30pm with Peter Powell introducing the 07/01/82 show. The Boomtown Rats were on the BBC 1 quiz show, Pointless. The contestants selected Irish bands as their choice for the final round. They were given 3 bands - Bewitched, The Cranberries and the Rats, and had to name 3 records (of which they had to get 1 correct as being pointless) where people asked in a p...
Hello, I'm a big Rats fan, longtime forum member and young musician. I've spent the last few years following the Boomtown Rats around and being booked on the smaller stages at festivals they have performed at (Isle of Wight, Wychwood, Wellowfest, Victorious) and seeing them 8 times on the last tour...
I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a copy of Rat Trap I've just picked up on Ebay? The first unusual thing is that it's pressed in blue vinyl with red injection moulded labels - I've uploaded some images here: http://www.45cat.com/record/eny16.One side is the standard UK Ensign pr...
I see that a new movie basic on the Rats top hit is due in production this year. What wet re you doing? How old were you? What life stage were you at? had you grown pubic hair by then? were you still a virgin? how was your love life? did you drink? smoke? can you remember even? well, the most i can remember without actually researching the exact year it was no.1, was that, i was a...
4 Boomtown Rats spotted on this show. Couldn't see Garry. It was the end performance, Band Aid, with some poor miming and Paul Weller filling in for Bono's legendary line. The Rats would not appear on Top of the Pops for another 10 years when Mondays reached 38 on it's second outing to support the re...
there's a debate on this question in London this evening - Friday 18th nov. I cant go. but anyway, I thought it an interesting question to pose to you guys. Is London Still Punk?

I've recently been listening to two recent Scott Walker albums Bish Bosch and Soused( a collaboration with Sunn O). To say these albums are difficult or challenging is an understatement, but having got through Walker's Tilt and The Drift I'm used to Scott's little musical jokes. What doesn't kil...
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oiyaW8zpbKU Nice to see 'This is the world calling' wheeled out at the Shepherds Bush Empire Always liked the line 'There's so much beauty, I wish that I believed enough to pray'
yeh I know lol and is speak from a fairly ignorant viewpoint. and I am aware of this. but I do wonder about stuff. Like all this EU and brexit stuff. I know mr Geldof is a remainer. so much so he's supporting lib dems I read, because apparently they're the only ones with the bottle to stand against brexit. we...
