How about that!
Bez just namechecked the Boomtown Rats on Celebrity Big Brother, and said they got their name from I' Don't Like Mondays, deciding to call themselves Happy Mondays!
Now I fully expect Johnny Borell of Razorlight to admit the Boomtown Rats were his biggest influence, and even nam...
He appears to be a hip hop /rap artist who had a track out in 2018 called Hi Tek with artwork very very similar to the irregularly designed flats and rows of tower blocks depicted on the forthcoming Rats' album. Anyone know the genesis of these images and why/how the Rats have run with them too?
Just wondering if people think that Citizens Of Boomtown will hit the charts?.I have no idea how many albums one needs to break the top 40 but if Bobs How To Decompose can get to nr 89 on the back of Silly Pretty Thing then there is a small chance.I have ordered 6 copies already(2 different vinyls, cds and d...
Thought I'd put this up quick. He seems to indicate he'll release 'a series of EP's' - and later put out a full album called 'Mega'. I can see the argument that new music vanishes so quickly these days. And EP's allows for more exposure and 'newness' as it were than one new album. Anyway I thought I'd post i...
Forgive me for lack of knowledge, but have the rats ever done songs such as An Icicle In The Sun, Tonight, Walking Down Town, He Watches It All, Mood Mambo, and Skin on Skin live? I've never seen performances of them, and I wasn't necessarily around yet when they were in their prime. Thanks in advance!
As the Rats are in the bingo hall stage of their career, it's time to rank the singles! geddit? no? I'll get my coat, but in the meantime the votes from the UK jury with marks out of 10 in brackets...Rat Trap (10)Like Clockwork ...
Amazingly no use of RAT or BOOMTOWN in the title, though first four letters are an anagram of RATS Garry Roberts admits hes very excited about the Rats new single Trash Blam Baby out next month. He said: It sounds fcuking great.https://www.thesun.ie/tvandshowbiz/music/4663936/boomtown-r...
Hi all, Can anyone tell me when the Rats played the Lees Cliff Hall in Folkestone? I went and think it must have been in the late 70s possibly 78. Remembering it this evening (husband bought a rat trap strangely)! Thanks Tess
For years i thought the Walking Downtown lyric went 10,000 streets under a Norwich sky! I could never work out why Norwich, maybe i thought Bob and Pete wrote it whilst on tour in Norwich. Then i saw the lyrics printed out in the re master cds and it was under an Orange sky not Norwich! I still prefer Norwi...
Hi everyone, First of all, I'd like to say how heart-warming it is that everybody on this forum has gone into high action about the new record and tour in 2020. It's really exciting the buzz among us for the release. Obviously, I'm delighted to have a brand new album by The Boomtown Rats (something I n...

Hello, Forgive me if this isn't quite 100% accurate and I am talking in broad strokes here... Part of the problem seems to be the type of events The Boomtown Rats are being booked to appear at. In past years they've played on bills such as Victorious, Isle of Wight Festival etc where the festivals thems...

After waiting a couple of decades for these guys to get their asses back to NYC, I suffered a four-hour wait of opening acts to see The Rats rush through a ONE HOUR set? It was a great one hour, but c'mon... for those of us who waited 30 years, a full set is the least we should expect. Hope it happens... By comp...
Hello, The history of Geldof's guitar playing is intriguing... (I'm predicting an onslaught of barbs about the quality his guitar playing... but putting them on one side.... I'm curious on the history of it). The earliest time I have seen him with a guitar (well prancing around with one) is the 'Som...

A case of quality over quantity this year for me. Not one bad show. But ranked as follows (though all of them were at least 9/10)Mon 28/10/2019 Damned London Palladium ; Quite possibly the greatest concert ever. Front row seats with 2,000 audience members dressed as vampires, Dave Vanian going ful...
Bob can sometimes unfairly be accused of having magpie - type tendencies, but anyone who suggests Down in the Boondocks 'inspired' Diamond Smiles, must surely be consistent and suggest 1997's Midnight in Chelsea from Jon Bon Jovi was 'inspired' by Diamond Smiles' playout element. We know Jon is a b...
Guys seems to be some movement here The A Tonic for the troops 2005 cd remaster has been reissued on Friday passed. HMV says that its limited and is £5.99. My wife seen it on the web and thinking that it was the LP being reissued had ordered it for me. So maybe the start of things to come.

I was reading that Ric Ocasek died on Sunday, so of course I started listening to their back catalog on Amazon. I had forgotten how good they were. A prototype for The Strokes. Best Friend's Girl on picture disc was the first I ever saw, never got it as it was as rare as hen's teeth back in the day. https:...
saturdays show asked for top40songs with the word I in noticed mondays (which was one of the biggest hits of 1979) was not on their list although a lot of obscure ones were have they conveniently forgot about rats rant over
I see that The Boomtown Rats are playing at Chilfest in Hertfodshire weekend of 5th and 6th Jul 2014. The line up is full of 80's bands. I do not know anything about this festival as I have never heard of it before. It seems that there are festivals everywhere now In the UK. Some big some small some mid si...

Greetings fellow rodents- does anyone know if Bob Geldof has sung the track Fall Down or has it always been sung by Simon Crowe at live concerts? It would be interesting to hear Bob sing it himself or add it to his live set. Obviously Simon is a good singer, with a pure voice and it would be interesting to he...
some time ago I went to the cinema to watch a move called "That Summer" or something like that,There where some tracks of the Rats along whit the Police, don't remember the tracks but I am sure they where from the first album.
if I'm not mistaken it's roughly 40years since mondays and we have the chance of a new album where has the time gone we've all aged and gone through life's bumps but now the rats are back and the world is a better place again. Ha Ha

Solo stuff aside, personally my list of songs that weren't that popular (this also depends where you live..i'm looking from an american standpoint!), that I do enjoy, are: Wind Chill Factor (Minus Zero) Please Don't Go Man At The Top Europe Looked Ugly ( I didn't even know this existed until I stumble...
Why did the Rats become so unpopular in the early 1980s? Why do I still love them? I'm a new member so forgive me starting a new thread straight away, I'm a lifelong fan of the band who only recently read Bobs autobiography I am ashamed to say! Incredibly, I just didn't buy it at the time and always resiste...

According to Pete Briquette the Rats are to record a video for a new song next week. No song title or other details given. Check PB Facebook for confirmation.
I think there is an argument that The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks and The Who are the greatest bands full stop. Anyway pick your favourite. -- Edited by ArrGee on Wednesday 19th of June 2019 06:45:17 PM
I remember his Amex ad on his trout farm. I recently read he has never used cocaine. I saw him telling the audience off for smoking pot at his gigs. And he voted to leave the EU. The lyrics aren't terribly complimentary (clue's in the name), so when I heard BG and Nigel Farage mentioned in the context of the same news item I guessed BG would be in the Leave camp. Of course, I guessed wrong. Have I completely misunderstood the lyrics (e.g. Europe as a metaphor?) or has BG's views...

As many of us had predicted the High Court case over the authorship of I Don't Like Mondays was settled out of court. I have always thought Fingers must have had a pretty big input into the song, and where would we be without Fingers performing the song live from 1979-1986. Anyway here's an interesting f...
