Don't think ticket sales are going good for this gig. Just got a phone call from their box office saying they were closing the Balcony seats section and moving people with tickets for this area into the Bleachers seating section.
Respected record producer Tony Visconti continues his series celebrating classic singles with a look at I Don't Like Mondays by the Boomtown Rats, which reached number 1 in the summer of 1979. First broadcast in 2007. ... so set the Tivo/V+ or just listen on iPlayer. Well unless you plan to be up at 2a...
I just read on the Sheperds Bush website that the show has been cancelled (postponed). I was coming over to London (from Holland) for this gig with a friend. Have my train and hotel booked. I can't believe it... PS this is NOT a joke, that is my name... ADMIN: Note I changed title to put all this content in...
caught this on bbc4 on friday good to see rats represented favourably so many progs dismissed them So quite pleased got to watch Irish rock at bbc from fri night hopefully they will be on
If you can drag yourself away from Comic Relief, then there are a couple of hours devoted to Irish Rock. Geldof provides the expected vox rock, and I suppose there is the chance of seeing the Rats in their pomp. I shall record it as I will be out with Royal Blood.
Just had a sort out and came across the above. 8 page feature on the Rats from January, with Mondo Bongo slipping from 9 to 11 on the official album chart (Our Price chart had them going up from 4 to 3 and Virgin holding steady at 5) Elephants Graveyard new at 40 and was single of the week. Mind you, a certain...
Neil McCormick's Needle Time with Sir Bob Geldof is broadcast on Vintage TV at 10pm, Tuesday September 3 (Sky channel 369, Virgin 343 and Freesat 515)Quote from Geldof: 'I'll play and sing those songs with The Boomtown Rats any ****** day of the week'. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/cultu...
HI- I wonder does anyone have the lyrics for Monday's b- side It's All The Rage. This track strangely did not appear on the Surfacing re- release which is another puzzle. Surely this is a song worthy of being remastered. How did "executive producer" and bass playing God Pete Briquette miss...
Hard to take in. This is 30 years old today. Just seem's like yesterday. What I great day that turned out to be. Not a big Queen fan. But hold my hands up they did good on the day. Me I was sitting by the TV VHS tape in hand and a drink in the other hand, Was a real hot day, that day over both Ireland and England....

Not heard anything about confirmed gig yet but thought it worth highlighting to those perhaps not aware that Rats did record a guest slot on Imelda May show last week. Believe it's going out on RTE some time in July. Not sure when. Is there an RTE equivalent of iPlayer for those outside Ireland?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Rsj4QkVx_8A Boomtown Rats clip surfaces on You Tube after being v deep in the long grass since 1984 and provides instant tonic for the troops. -- Edited by Mark L on Sunday 5th of July 2015 01:14:44 AM
Having picked up The Fine Art of Surfacing at the weekend, for £3 at the local Oxfam, I remembered how excited I was to get the album back in 1979. Got it in advance along with Eat to the Beat and Hersham Boys, all three coming out more or less at the same time. Our local record store somehow always had them a...
Look what I have just come across I forgot I had this Tape only But still in good order The Rats last live gig 86 two songs on it Lookin after No1 (Bob says it's been a great 10 years RIP) Then goes into this song Also does Joey on it
isit me or are most of the rats b sides as good as the asides I think they should do a besides compilation I would certainly buy it what dou you all thin ?
1. Real different. 2 Born to burn. 3 Europe looked ugly. 4 So strange. 5 Man at the top. 6 Lying again. 7 Late last night. 8 How do you do. 9 Barefooting. 10 It's all the rage. In my opinion any of the above could have been a double A side or even an album tack. All great songs
Don't know if anyone else is a fan on here, but I was very pleasantly surprised to find Tom Robinson's recording a new album for the first time in 20 years. I would've backed anyway (been missing his gigs for years, so hello Camden acoustic gig) but he's just released a bit of the rough mix of one of the song...
If I'm ever going to find the answer to this question it has to be on here. It's only been driving me mad for 32 years. What exactly are the two lines I've never seen listed on any sleeve / Smash Hits / Songbook / You name it, just after 'Hey Billy, take a walk with me' and as the sax starts to come in?
Hi all - have guested on here a bit over the last couple of years, but today decided to join as new member. Came across this 1980 performance of 'Keep it up' on YT and thought i'd flag it up in my first post. The Rats seemed to be often on Kenny's show, this is one of their more interesting performances...wit...

... aside from the Rats not playing, the three acts I would probably want to see play at the same time! Also you have to suffer Lionel Richie if you want to get a decent vantage point. Luckily I am seeing them in The Smoke that weekend.PYRAMID STAGESUNDAY 28 JUNETHE WHO - 21:45 - 23:15 PAUL WELLER - 19:...
While we await an official new dvd praise must go to this recording of the Rats in Karlstad. 35 mins of their recent concert in hd, with great angles and close ups. No dodgy shaky camerawork or heads getting in the way. Excellent photography and really captures the Rats in their current ' are we not IMMEN...

I went on a little pilgrimage to West Runton at the weekend. Sadly the pavilion is long gone, but I had a beer (or was it three?) at the Village Inn which was annexed to the Pavillion itself. The Rats played the West Runton Pavillion on April Fools Day 1978. And there is a bootleg. I don't suppose anyone h...

hamish, who does the Rats page on FB has said there is going to be an Irish gig announced. No mention of a possible Autumn tour. Wish they'd just announce it. It's making it difficult to plan ahead.
Just discovered this which I had not seen before. It's the Rats performing House On Fire from a German tv show called WWF Club. To avoid any confusion this is not Musicladen -it is a different tv show and performance. Again its nice to know that this footage exists and in such high quality. The credits r...
Last night in Vancouver U2s the Edge had a little mishap. With Bono falling off his bike maybe somebody up there does not like them?? You'd never see Garry or Pete waling around in a stupor like the Edge does in this dreary song... BTW Should be seen from both angles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Has anyone ever noticed this before - it's on You Tube and features a miner's lamp lighting up a wall of rock where it resembles a face, whilst a hand (Geldof's?) reaches out to touch same. Then comes a caption 'Directed by Nigel Dick' and the whole thing lasts about 20 seconds. I'm sure this has not be...

"I have a Boomtown Rats discography question. I have a UK 7" of "Looking After #1" wtih an Ensign sleeve that looks just like the one listed as a 12" in your discography. Was this commercially released?"
Drops some solo work for Million Years and Up all Night, but please note, Rain is not as advertised on the packaging etc. This plays as Dave, single version. Still, less than £6 from Discogs and got full refund off seller even though not his fault and was merely highlighting for future transactions/ad...

I have been designated to clear out the loft this weekend by the big boss. Does anyone have info on the date, when The Boomtown Rats played a concert at Queen Margaret Union / Glasgow University, Glasgow? It was somewhere around 1979 -1981. I was telling someone about going up to see the concert without a ticket and being unable to get in as I was too young and it was sold out. A...
